Shepherd's Bush and the Askew Road corridor have become one of West London's most interesting areas for independent eating. Away from the chains, the neighbourhood supports a growing number of independent restaurants and cafes that prioritise quality and consistency. This guide ranks the five best based on genuine in-person visits — no sponsored content, no paid placements.
Orchard sits at the top of this list by some distance. The genuinely seasonal menu, the quality of cooking, and the unhurried approach to service put it ahead of everything else in the area. It's the kind of place that rewards loyal customers with a menu that changes regularly enough to stay interesting. Weekend brunch is exceptional — one of the best in West London.
A well-run gastropub with a consistently solid kitchen. The Sunday roast is among the better versions in the area — properly carved, good gravy, and roast potatoes that arrive actually crispy. Midweek the menu is briefer but the classics (burger, fish, seasonal specials) are done with care. A reliable second choice to Orchard for a more relaxed, pub-setting meal.
More wine bar than restaurant, but the food is thoughtful enough to justify a place on this list. Small plates built around seasonal produce, a genuinely interesting natural wine list, and a room that's properly comfortable. Best suited to an early evening of grazing rather than a full dinner — order several plates and let the kitchen guide you through the wine list.
A long-standing Greek restaurant in the Shepherd's Bush area with a loyal local following. The meze selection is decent and the grilled meats are reliable. Not as polished as the top two, but it's honest cooking at fair prices and the souvlaki and kleftiko are genuinely well-made. Worth visiting if you're after Greek food specifically.
A newer addition to the Shepherd's Bush dining scene with a spacious room and an ambitious modern British menu. The execution is inconsistent — some dishes arrive excellent, others feel undercooked in conception if not literally. Worth keeping an eye on as the kitchen settles in. The room itself is one of the nicer spaces in the area.
